The Solar Trap: Greg’s Fight Against Deceptive Solar Practices

The promise of solar energy is simple: lower utility bills, increased home value, and a smaller carbon footprint. Unfortunately, for some homeowners, this dream quickly turns into a legal nightmare. At Prevost Law Firm, we see firsthand how deceptive practices in the solar industry can leave families with unfinished projects, mounting debt, and a sense of betrayal.

Recently, we sat down with one of our clients, Greg, to discuss his journey through a difficult solar dispute and how legal intervention helped him finally find peace of mind. Greg’s story is a cautionary tale for anyone considering solar, but it is also a story of hope for those currently struggling with a solar company that has failed to deliver.

The Problem: A Contract Ignored

Greg’s issues began on the very day of installation. He had signed a contract to have 12 solar panels installed. However, when he arrived home after the work was done, he discovered only 10 panels had been installed.

When Greg immediately contacted the company to ask about the missing panels, he was met with resistance rather than a resolution. Despite his contract clearly stating 12 panels, the company insisted he had only signed for 10.

“That’s how this all really got started,” Greg recalled. “They just gave me a bunch of grief and wouldn’t come bring the other two panels”.

Taking a Stand Against Deception

Faced with a company that refused to honor its agreement, Greg took a decisive stand. He refused to allow the system to be activated, knowing that once it was turned on, he would lose significant leverage.

His wife even played a crucial role in protecting their home. When the local electric company arrived to change the meter, a necessary step for system activation, she stopped them. She correctly told them not to proceed because the job was unfinished.

Greg’s message to the company was clear: “I told them ahead of time, it’s never going to be turned on if you don’t complete the job. Finally, I just got sick of it and told them, ‘Look, you’re not going to install the other two. I’m not going to pay you anything.'”

Rather than making it right, Greg said that the company tried to bully him and felt as though they treated him like a “criminal” for simply demanding they follow their own contract.

The Bankruptcy Twist

As the dispute dragged on for nearly two years, the situation took a strange turn. Greg received notice that Titan was going bankrupt. Suddenly, the company that had spent two years denying the existence of the missing panels called him up.

“They called me and said, ‘Hey, we’ve got two solar panels. We’d like to come put them on,'” Greg said. “I said, ‘Dude, you’re two years late, man… You had your chance a year and a half, two years ago. Don’t step on my property'”.

It appeared to be a last-ditch effort to collect cash before the company collapsed, but for Greg, the trust was long gone.

How Prevost Law Firm Stepped In

Feeling skeptical, but knowing he couldn’t let the company win with their deceptive tactics, Greg reached out to Prevost Law Firm. He had heard we handle solar panel disputes and decided to do something about the lies he had been told.

Once Greg hired Prevost in August 2025, our team went to work immediately. In these types of cases, the legal battle often involves not just the installation company but also the lender that financed the project. We sued Greg’s lender on his behalf to seek a fair resolution.

A Resolution

By April 2026, just eight months after Greg first hired us, the case reached a settlement. While the specific terms of settlements are often confidential, the impact on Greg’s life was clear.

“I’m real happy. No problem at all,” Greg said of the results. “It’s a done deal. It’s one less thing I have to worry about”.

When asked if the eight-month legal process was worth the wait, Greg’s answer was definitive: “Oh, absolutely it was. Yes, 100%.”

Advice for Homeowners in Similar Situations

Greg’s experience is unfortunately common in the solar industry, where high-pressure sales and deceptive contracts can trap unsuspecting homeowners. His advice for anyone currently facing a similar struggle is simple: don’t wait.

“I would say hire them today,” Greg urged. “I would say right now, don’t wait. Don’t think about it. You never know when it’s going to be too late”.

At Prevost Law Firm, we pride ourselves on standing by our word and moving as fast as possible to get our clients out of bad deals. If you have been misled by a solar company, you don’t have to fight them alone.
